Now that a filibuster in the Senate is no longer an issue, for better or worse, some kind of health care bill is likely to pass and be signed into law. And the worse is awful downright bad, threatening to force us to become customers of corporate medical insurance, with no meaningful alternative. And that is why the fight to protect the right of states to deploy their own single payer systems is more critical than ever. Marcy Winograd is standing strong on this issue and has her own ac…

Veteran Fasting Outside White House
THOMAS E. MAHANY, eldonstone@wowway.com,
http://www.eldonstone.com
Mahany, a Vietnam War veteran (101st Airborne Division), now a stonemason and artist from Michigan, has been fasting in front of the White House since Veterans Day. He sent Obama the following letter the day after Veterans Day:
Dear Mr. President,
In May of 1970 I spent 29 days in Lafayette Square fasting for Peace in Viet…

An Army cook and single mom is confined to her base in Georgia and may face criminal charges for skipping her deployment flight to Afghanistan in order to take care of her infant son.
Spc. Alexis Hutchinson, 21, who was arrested by military police Nov. 6, claims she had no choice but to refuse deployment orders when her mother was unable to care for her 10-month-old son, Kamani.
Her civilian attorney, Rai Sue Sussman, alleges that one of Hutchinson's superiors at Hunter…

H1N1 "super flu" plague in Ukraine spark concern, conspiracy theories about origins
Monday, November 16, 2009
by: Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
(NaturalNews) Here's what we know with some degree of certainty about the H1N1 virus in Ukraine right now: nearly 300 people have died from the viral strain, and over 65,000 people have been hospitalized (the actual numbers are increasing by the hour). The virus appears to be either a highly aggressive mutation of the globally-circ…

Earlier this year President Obama canceled the federal government's plans to store high-level radioactive waste from nuclear power plants and weapons facilities at the controversial Yucca Mountain site in Nevada -- but now there are concerns that South Carolina could become a permanent dumping ground for the dangerous waste.
That state is home to the Savannah River Site, a nuclear materials processing center along the Savannah…

On March 17, 1993, I addressed the House of Representatives in one of the many “budget” debates. Over the past 16 years, many publications and books have reprinted my speech. They viewed my speech as being on target.
Researchers have written to me regarding the speech, confused because it was printed in two areas…

Pouring money into the private banking system has only fixed the economy for bankers and the wealthy; it has not done much to address either the fundamental problem of unemployment or the debt trap so many Americans find themselves in.
President Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan has so far failed to halt the growth of unemployment: 2.7 million jobs have been lost since the stimulus plan began. California has l…

I didn't know Van Jones. I didn't know Van Jones was a friend of mine -- at least not until the stench billowing from the Fox Hate Channel became so foul I was forced to take a closer look at this terrifying creature. No -- not Jones, whom President Obama wisely had hired as Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality -- but the sobbing, lying, deliriously insane Glenn Beck.
According to Beck, who began his assault on Jones in a July 23…

Mr. Griffin's Book "The Creature from Jekyl Island" is probably the most important document published in the twentieth century. You will never understand the mess that we are in, until you understand Money Mechanics and the monetary system. And no, this is not taught in school. Highly recommended.
The author of The Creature from Jekyll Island;
A Second Look at The Federal Reserve,
will conduct a one-day seminar on money: How to earn it, protect it, and invest it in these troubled times.

Four days after NYC CAN’s hearing at the State Supreme Court, Justice Edward Lehner is still considering our motion to reject Referee’s Louis Crespo’s recommendation that the petition not be submitted to the voters on November 3.
On Friday October 2, our attorney, Dennis McMahon, contacted Judge Lehner’s office and was told that a decision had not yet been issued, but that he would be notified when a ruling has been reached.
As previously reported, after the hearing on Tuesday…

Halloween is still a month away, but ghouls, ghosts and other grotesque creatures are already roaming America's streets, possibly preparing to knock at your door. What makes them so scream-out-loud horrifying is that they are the newly issued spawn of -- shriek! -- Wall Street.
The very same greed-fueled bankers who brought us the disaster of 2008's financial crash have crea…

First Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq because he believed it was an illegal war, has won his three-year legal battle with the Army.
With little fanfare the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., accepted the resignation of the 1996 Kalani High School graduate, and he will be discharged the first week in October.
Rather than seek a second court-martial against the artillery officer, the Army will grant Watada a discharge under "…

There are some terms that people in Islamic and Western countries should never say to each other, because they confuse and inflame more than they clarify. The most obvious ones would be “jihad”, “crusade” and “great satan”. All of them are used in somewhat innocuous ways by the people who utter them, but mean something completely different – and much more inflammatory – to foreign ears.
I would like to propose a topical addition to the list…

I still get a thrill whenever I get my hands on a confidential memo with "The White House, Washington" appearing on the letterhead. Even when—like the one I'm looking at now—it's about a snoozy topic: This week's G-20 summit.
But the letter's content shook me awake, and may keep me up the rest of the night.
The 6-page letter from the White House, dated September 3, was sent to the 20 heads of state that will meet th…
